Independence Day heter det även i vissa länder. Ofta handlar ju en nationaldag om att dom blev "fri" från något annat land.

"National day" is an excellent choice. Believe me; I´m an English teacher.

Interesting. So was I, but I must admit, I don't think there is a proper term for the word in english. That is, the americans have Independence day and the britts have Union day or somesuch (if I am not misinformed or remember incorrectly). Some nations have flag-days or liberation days. The term "nationaldag" is actually quite swedish, or at least nordic. Most other nations celebrate a specific event or action, the declaration of rights or the institution of a king or democracy or something of the sort. "National day" is a proper term in lack of a better explanation for it, but it is a word I have a hard time imagening I will ever hear from a native english speaker. I may be wrong though, occassionally I am. ;)

You are correct when it comes to decidig which Englisspeaking area we are talking about. However, being a received pr. speaker (=British Engl.) I must refer to the term National Day.
