Logoped??Help??
Hi there,
I am quite upset with Swedish Healthcare System. But maybe I just don?t have the right information.
I gave a son who is 21 months old. He shows some symptoms that concern us:
1.Not talking, not even mom, dad and such
2.Walking on toes a lot
3. Moves his head side to side and hits on pillows.
4. Very shy. Does not play with other kids
5. Flaps his hands agains belly
6. Pacing up and down
7. Does not point to things.
8. Restlessness
etc.
We had our suspicions about autism which was discussed in BVC. Unfortunately, we were informed that in Sweden my son first has to see two different psychologist and each has a waiting time of minimum 6 months.
We could not wait that long so we traveled to our home country - Latvia where he was checked buy psychologists, specialist that does autism assessments, Neurolog and more. All in one week. All of them after meeting our son think that there are small possibility for him having autism BUT he need immediate help from speech therapist, audio logopeds, ABA therapy or early intervention therapy. Which from my understanding Sweden does not offer at all UNLESS you are Diagnosed with something and get into Habilitering.
Is this true? What about kids that are not diagnosed with anything but are very much behind and need help? Where do we get it? I looked for private options in Västerås and there is nothing. I tried to reach out to Habilitering but they said that you need to be actually diagnose d with something to get help there. Where do you guys go when your kids are behind and need special logoped and such? Do you just wait in lines for forever and wait for psychologist first? and what if you dont get any diagnoses what do you do? just hope that your kid one day will start talking on his own? That is terrible.
